Direct Consulting & Purchasing
Eva Micklethwaite, President
Chandler, ArizonaDirect Consulting & Purchasing was the project manager and purchaser for the renovation of an Albuquerque, New Mexico, property. President Eva Micklethwaite was prepared to release a purchase order to an overseas casegood manufacturer, one of the client's preferred vendors, when she discovered the furniture was being built with the wrong material. The vendor informed her that the miscommunication could be corrected, but it would mean missing the deadline and going over budget. Ms. Micklethwaite then contacted the client's other preferred vendors and received similar news from each. Determined to deliver the project on time and on budget, she turned to Sorrentino Mariani.
Solution
Sorrentino Mariani had 19 days to get 100 rooms engineered, manufactured and shipped from our Norfolk, Virginia factory to Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was early July. The factory was preparing for the July 4th shutdown. We immediately began coordinating with factory personnel, raw material suppliers and local fabricators. All agreed to delay their July 4 shutdowns and manufacturing began. Sorrentino Mariani met the August 3rd deadline and delivered the project on budget.
Sorrentino Mariani was able to meet the deadline and budget because of two overwhelming factors. First, manufacturing here allows us to control virtually every aspect of the project. The second is clear communication. Close cooperation between all parties - client, vendors, purchasing agents, etc. - allows us to work efficiently and effectively to avoid any miscommunications.

The Boars Head Inn
Paula Benesch, Lead Designer, Project Manager
Charlottesville, VirginiaThe Boars Head Inn is the University of Virginia's iconic hotel. The property needed to be modernized while protecting its historical character. After extensive research and planning, a theme was developed that drew heavily from the area's history, the university and its founding father, Thomas Jefferson. Project manager, Paula Benesch describes it as "a modern interpretation of historical elements." Since executing this vision required custom furniture, Ms. Benesch contacted Sorrentino Mariani.
Solution
Sorrentino Mariani worked closely with Ms. Benesch and the team from the University of Virginia to develop unique details, finishes and hardware. The project also required an extensive amount of sampling. Because we manufacture every piece at our Norfolk, Virginia factory, we were able to remain responsive to client requests while delivering quality furniture crafted to the client's exact specifications.
With furnishings in place, the renovations began grabbing headlines. The Boars Head Inn was listed third on Travel and Leisure's top 20 college hotels. The property also received accolades from USA Today and Hotel Management.

Topnotch Resort
Truex Cullins Interiors, Design Team
Burlington, VermontIn 2013, the luxury property of Topnotch Resort in Stowe, Vermont, undertook a multi-million dollar renovation of its hotel. The project hinged on hard dates for every aspect of the job. A single missed deadline could delay the property's renovation and lead to work interruptions. The client required an American manufacturer that had the capabilities to deliver the quality the project required and on deadline. The search lead them to Sorrentino Mariani.
Solution
Sorrentino Mariani collaborated closely with the property ownership, the construction company, and the design team, Truex Cullins Interiors. Timelines were coordinated room-by-room and floor-by-floor. Sorrentino Mariani ensured their furniture would arrive on property on specific dates. This was vital to the project progressing smoothly. If furniture arrived late, everything would halt abruptly. If it came before rooms were ready, the overflow furniture would hinder renovations. By manufacturing everything stateside, each deadline was met.
Making the furniture in America also allowed the Sorrentino Mariani team to be on site at key moments during the project. This included pre-production inspections of room types to better engineer the furniture as well as providing proper installation of each case piece.
